Welcome to Inter-American Cooperation Network online community. This platform provides an interactive space aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange, discussions, and networking among the southern hemisphere high-level cooperation authorities.
The Network serves as a forum for analysis and dialogue that facilitates the exchange of information, experiences and methodologies that bring together regional initiatives on the effectiveness of cooperation.
The idea of creating a network of cooperation actors of the hemisphere was raised during the CIDI Specialized High-Level Meeting of Cooperation Authorities, which took place in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, on October 16 and 17th of 2008, its final document states:
“We, the National Authorities and Experts on Technical Cooperation… commit ourselves to, promote as appropriate, and better coordination and communication between the different cooperation players in the OAS framework that involves especially those with responsibility for cooperation in each member state, in order to ensure an adequate flow of available information.” (Course of Action of Playa del Carmen)
In October 2009, during the CIDI Specialized High-Level Meeting of Cooperation Authorities it was decided that this initiative should serve as a mechanism that facilitates communication and information exchange among cooperation authorities in the hemisphere. The Bogota Consensus establishes that high level cooperation authorities and representatives of the member states are responsible for:
“Strengthening of the Inter-American Cooperation Network as a mechanism that facilitates dialogue among the Cooperation Authorities, contributes to the exchange of cooperation management experiences, encourages cooperation among the member states, and heightens the effectiveness of cooperation in the Americas.”
The Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) of the OAS acts as the Inter-American Cooperation Network, networks technical secretariat.
In addition to promoting the organization of sub regional/regional meetings, the Network offers various communication tools through www.cooperanet.org
